When You Are Sick Remember These Reminders
When we are sick, sometimes we are not thinking clearly.
And sometimes we are not taught the basics of health growing up.
We may have been raised to take medications but we may not know that food is medicine
Or that there are certain things that we may take which may prolong illness.
Some basics to know are
🍎 Caffeine is a diuretic so it will dehydrate you.
When we are sick we need lots of liquid preferably water. Eating or drinking caffeine is the opposite of what you need. Examples of caffeine are black tea, decaf coffee, regular coffee, white tea, green tea, cacao, and chocolate.
🍎 Dairy creates and sustains inflammation. If you have inflammation in the body, do not consume dairy. Many people consume yogurt while they are sick but this is dairy. You will be sick longer if you are consuming dairy.
🍎 Taking probiotics for gut health is always advised. But it is important to know that if you are taking antibiotics, your probiotics must be taken at least 2 hours a part or they will cancel each other out. The antibiotics will not be effective so you will continue to be sick or need more antibiotics.
🍎 When we are sick, we may want a pick-me-up. Many people reach for something sweet like sweetened orange juice or apple juice but sugar weakens the immune system. It’s best to avoid sugar completely when you are sick. A little fruit can be okay but read the labels, most juices contain sugar or high-fructose corn syrup which you want to avoid.
